New ACUVUE® OASYS Transitions™ Contact Lenses
Imagine how clear your vision would be with contact lenses that adapt to changing light conditions – no more squinting, no more eye shielding, no more turning down screen brightness! They may sound like something out of the future, but you can experience them for yourself today with revolutionary new contact lenses from ACUVUE®.
Already named one of TIME magazine’s Best Inventions of 2018, ACUVUE® OASYS Transitions™ Contact Lenses have been engineered to darken/lighten as light conditions change throughout your day. The lenses seamlessly balance the amount of indoor and outdoor light entering your eyes, enhancing contrast and colour definition for an exceptional vision experience. Clinical trials found that wearers experienced 38% less squinting and 43% faster recovery from light-induced visual stress compared to those wearing normal contact lenses.
But not only do these lenses make for more comfortable vision, Transitions™ Light Intelligent Technology™ also protects your eyes by filtering out blue light from screens and blocking out harmful UV rays (NB: these new contact lenses should not be seen as a replacement for sunglasses, as they only cover part of your eyes leaving the surrounding areas exposed to UV damage).
The team at OPTIX Opticians at Broadgate is so excited at the prospect of being one of the first opticians in the City of London to stock these revolutionary lenses!
But how do they actually work?
These adaptive contact lenses are made of senofilcon A – a material renowned and proven to provide exceptional vision correction and seamless comfort – which is embedded with trillions of photochromic molecules. These molecules are highly responsive to light and when exposed to UV or HEV rays a chemical reaction is triggered causing them to absorb light and darken. This technology has been used in sunglasses for years, but the technology has never successfully been incorporated into contact lenses until now.
When fully activated the lenses can block up to 70% of visible light. This isn’t as dramatic a change as photochromic sunglasses, but this capacity was chosen to minimize aesthetic changes to people with, for example, blue or green eyes. Once the brightness of external light dims the photochromic molecules close and the lenses fade to clear within just 90 seconds.
These two-week reusable lenses hugely enhance your eyes’ natural ability to adapt to changing light conditions. They ensure soothing vision all day whatever the lighting, offer exceptional colour enhancement and protect your eyes against UV rays and overexposure to blue light.
The lenses were recently awarded a sought-after CE quality mark, so ACUVUE® is now phasing them into markets across Europe, and they are FDA approved too.
